Please choose from the assortment of baseball throwbacks we have listed above. The links are to both the authentic Mitchell & Ness throwbacks and to the Majestic replicas. The links will either take you to Mitchell & Ness' online store, Major League Baseball's online store, or to our personal favorite, Distant Replays out of Atlanta. A bit of history about DR...
During the year 1998, A bar owner in Atlanta named Andy Hyman was getting on board a flight for NY intent on a vacation. He hoped for some relaxing time. He was tired of the hours he was working at his bar, and he needed a change. During the flight, when he was browsing the pages of a catalog, Andy saw a replica of a Canadiens ice hockey jersey. He was confident that an entire store selling such reproductions of vintage merchandise would be a big hit among sports fans so he opened a kiosk in a mall and named it Distant Replays. The little kiosk overflowed with shirts, gear, caps and jackets until he expanded to an 800sq foot retail storefront. His store has become a must-see location for sports fans and he even sends limousines to transport players from their hotels to the store.
We have partnered with Andy and most of the baseball jerseys you see on this site are available from his store in Atlanta.
Of course Mitchell & Ness have a great reputation for authentic reproductions, but they get it wrong once in a while. For example, these 3 examples show that even the folks at M&N are only human:
1. 1978 Padres Home - Dave Winfield: The innaccuracy is in the fact that M&N did not put a number on the front of the jersey, choosing to put a number only on the back. The road version offered has the correct placement of the number on both the front left of the jersey and the back. Although being aware of this problem M&N has never felt the need to correct it.
2. 1976 Atlanta Braves Road - Phil Niekro. M&N caught this one early and corrected it. But it was originally released with a capital A in Atlanta, when it should have been lower case.
3. 1969 Mets: This shirt should have had piping around the neck area, but the release was completely plain.
Other than these, many examples of the wrong font are out there, and also wrong placement of numbers on the sleeves and shoulders.
