In 1986, after helping lead the New York Giants to a Super Bowl title, Lawrence Taylor was honored as the NFL Defensive Player of the Year as well as MVP of the league. Taylor became the first defensive player since 1971 to win the MVP Award. Throughout the 1986 season, Taylor tallied a career best 20.5 sacks.
